Up Close With The Pine Branch
I wanted a macro shot of snow on a pine branch. I loved what I saw when I got closer than I intended.

A moment from a brief sunrise from Pittsburgh’s North shore. The ice covered logs in the foreground not only saved me from sliding into the river, but provided a great visual element to this wintery cityscape.
Just a simple shot from the deck on the back of our house. Trees are some of my favorite things to silhouette. I’m most happy with how the sharp branches overlay the soft, out of focus ones.
Ilex, pausing for a quick portrait before his walk around the farm.
An old soda shop in an abandoned building. There was just enough light to frame this up.
Wandering around the wetlands in Boyce-Mayview park at dusk, I found this spot. I set up the tripod, tossed on the 14-24mm lens, and waited for the orange and purple glow.
A very long exposure just before sunset shows the moving clouds and blurs the flow of the Monongahela. I used a polarizing filter to show the stones of the riverbed.
An overly sunny day below Cucumber Falls in Ohiopyle State Park. I like so many things about this scene. the curves of the water’s path, the reflections in the water on te ice, and the softness of the flow of water in the bottom corner.
Sometimes you have to climb to get the angle you want. I liked the repeating arch of the right corner of the snow, the bridge, and the Fulton building.
Untouched snow on a pedestrian bridge over the Parkway in Pittsburgh. I was drawn in by the linear perspective of this scene.
